When: Saturday, Feb. 8, 1-3
Where: Saxapahaw Island Park; Meet in the parking lot
What to bring: pruning saws, loppers, hand pruners, work gloves, chain saws, water, snacks
Description: We'll cut invasive Chinese Privet and then stack cut material in low areas on the island. Our work is part of an ongoing project to preserve the beautiful bottomland ecology of the island, a project now in its fourth year. There will be tasks for all ages and abilities. No prior experience needed! Clearing privet makes the island's diverse ecology visible. For many, the island now serves as both an outdoor classroom and an opportunity to walk on well-maintained trails.
Here's a brief video about Chinese Privet and why it's important to remove it--
