When: Saturday, March 8, 1-3
Where: Meet in Sellers building parking lot, where post office is located
What to bring: leaf rakes, loppers, pruning shears, pruning saws, chainsaws, shovels, matches, work gloves, brooms, sturdy footwear, water, snacks
Tasks:
Remove English Ivy from giant Hackberry tree on the slope
Prune dead branches from trees on the slope
Take down and cut up dead tree in parking lot next to the stage (big job)
Gather and stack dead fall from winter storms (big job)
Remove Chinese Privet along margin of slope leading up to Sax Patch
Dig holes and prep beds on slope below Sellers building
Plant native grasses on slope below Sellers building
Remove ivy from rock foundation at Sellers building
Cut up downed tree on slope above stage (big job)
Remove metal fence posts along Sellers building driveway
Cut and paint sprouting Chinese Privet stumps in Sellers building parking lot (herbicide provided)
Repair ancient green planters at Sellers building (hammer provided; bring 15-20 finishing nails)
Sweep steps below Sellers building and steps along slope leading to Sax Patch
March 8th 1-3 pm | Lower School Learning Garden
The Hawbridge Lower School Learning Garden is expanding!
Saturday, March 8th- 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm (All ages are welcomed!)
Plan to meet at the Lower School Garden right above the Amphitheater
We have many tasks and welcome volunteers of all skill levels!
Bring gardening gloves, shovels, and we'll create an exciting new growing space for students. Feel free to bring your tools: heavy hammers like a sledge, wheel barrows, & brooms. Together with Hawbridge families, we are inviting the village to pitch in to install 9 new large raised vegetable garden beds.
Tasks will include:
- Clearing the space
- Assembling the planters
- Leveling the beds with timber supports and rebar
- Moving wood chips and topsoil
- Filling the beds
