Thank you for your email and on-going efforts to reduce crash rates within our region.
Your email is timely in that I am in the process of applying for 2023 Safe Routes and Streets for All (SS4A) federal funding to assist with implementation of our Transportation (Action) Safety Plan (TSP). I made a Call for Projects a few months ago for member jurisdictions within our MPO, including Alamance County, and received only one safety project for consideration. The application deadline is July 10th. Eligible safety projects require a 20% local match that our smaller municipalities find to be a barrier for project submissions.
Regarding your question as to when the MPO will consider expanding our roadway priority list. That will be a decision made by the MPO's Safety Subcommittee. As you are aware, our TSP was adopted last October and since then I've been working with the Safety Subcommittee to implement the plan. You are welcomed to address our Safety Subcommittee Vision Zero Leadership Team at their July 12th meeting, 9:00 am, Impact Alamance, 133 E Davis Street, Burlington or attend the next BGMPO Technical Coordinating Meeting held virtually at 9:00 a.m. via Microsoft Teams on August 15th and/or the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting,August 15th, 5:30 p.m., Burlington City Hall Municipal Conference Room.
I am available to attend your next meeting on July 11th to present an overview of the TSP, our safety planning efforts and next steps of plan implementation.
The Burlington-Graham Metropolitan Planning Organization (BPGMPO) developed a Transportation Safety Plan (TSP) “...designed to improve the safety and security of transportation infrastructure in the Burlington-Graham metropolitan region.” The TSP was adopted by the BGMPO on 18 October 2022, the TSP documents are found at https://bgmpotransportationsafetyplan.com/documents.htm.
Reviewing the TSP finds one Saxapahaw area road, Saxapahaw Bethlehem Church Rd., categorized as a High Injury Network (HIN) road for bike and pedestrian injuries.
Sax-Beth Rd. is considered a state road managed and maintained by the NCDOT. The TSP documents a list of State Priority Routes on Table 9.1 of the TSP but does not include Sax-Beth Rd. in the list. I sent an email to the BGMPO to introduce the Saxapahaw Forward Traffic Safety Team and to ask a few questions:
How do we add a state road to the state priority list?
Can a representative from the BGMPO attend our next meeting on 11 July 2023 at 6PM to assist in our group's planning efforts?
Can Saxapahaw Forward Team send a representative to your next meeting?

This is great - especially great that Ms. Mallette can attend the July 11th SaxFWD meeting.
